Participatory Arts in a Time of Political Crisis: Provocations and Reflections – Thursday 26th June 2pm
The Participation Research Group at the School of Performance and Cultural Industries are proud to welcome you to their annual public seminar.
The fight for social justice is currently appearing on many fronts; the rise of far right political parties, continued devastation due to war, growing levels of inequality and a decline in basic standards of living. Inspired by Brecht’s poem Motto, we live in ‘dark times’.
In the face of these turbulent and unprecedented times, we are inviting the audience to question: What is the role of participatory arts in a political crisis? What are feasible and realistic expectations of socially engaged practice in such a brutalised political context?
Participatory arts in a time of political crisis will work as a provocation with guest artists and academics responding to the questions above before opening up for discussion.
Guest speakers include:
Amara Khan (Lahore College for Women University, Pakistan)
Dani Abulhawa (School of Performance and Cultural Industries, United Kingdom)
Saoirse Teele (Common Wealth, United Kingdom)
The Participation Research Group invite you to an afternoon of critical discussion and future thinking for the political role of arts.
Participatory arts in a time of political crisis: Provocations and Reflections is supported by the School of Performance and Cultural Industries Research Funds and stage@leeds.
